"Flowers come to life in light, but what happens to flowers at night? As light fades our awareness of them begins to diminish.

They are almost forgotten. Inside the plant, light sensitive phytochrome molecules wait in an exquisite state of sensitivity.

If the light returns they will come back to life. If not they will fade, grow pale - etiolate, and finally denature.

The paintings explore this condition waiting, waiting for the light."

Hedge Script

"Whoso breaketh a hedge, a serpent shall bite him"

  A hedge can be the product of a structure set in motion a thousand or more years ago.

A network of nature, a political barrier on fertile land, a corridor for wildlife, a folkloric path for witches;

life teems, twists one against the other, the ages are marked by the addition of new species.

Zachary Beer treats these forms as a natural calligraphy demarking the land,

creating paintings that explore these intricate patterns, complex structures and synecdoche.
